🔥 Hot Work Permit Requirements

Hot work (welding, cutting, grinding, brazing, soldering, etc.) creates fire hazards. To minimize risks, a Hot Work Permit system is required by OSHA (29 CFR 1910.252) and NFPA 51B standards. Below are the essential requirements for issuing and performing hot work safely.


🔧 1. When Is a Hot Work Permit Required?

A hot work permit is required any time hot work is performed outside a designated, fire-safe area, including:

  • On construction sites
  • Inside manufacturing or maintenance areas
  • Near combustible materials or flammable gases/liquids
  • In confined spaces or non-permanent locations

📝 2. Permit Authorization

  • Must be Signed by a Member of Management
  • The work area must be inspected prior to hot work and verify that all precautions are taken.
  • The permit below will be emailed to the Author for further completion
